Comment: Poster advertising the Cinématographe Lumière. The film being shown is L’Arroseur Arrosé (1895). The poster dates from 1896, when the Cinématographe became known to the general public. The Cinématographe was the invention of the French brothers Auguste and Louis Lumière.
